Meet Your Instructors
Katie Koehler
Retired K-5, 9-12 Special, Elementary General Education teacher of 33 years, former high school head volleyball and girls tennis coach, current substitute teacher. Education: MA Educational Administration, MA Secondary Special Education, BA Elementary Education/Emphasis Special Education, community volunteer.
Sarah Staudt
Sarah currently serves as the District K-12 Teacher Librarian for Mason City School District. Of Sarah’s 19 years teaching experience, 15 of those years are in the school library as a teacher librarian for Mason City CSD. Sarah is passionate about teaching information literacy skills, specifically news media literacy, reliable resources and combating fake news.
Jerry Gatton
A graduate of Buena Vista University with a bachelor's degree in Business Education, Jerry is teaching and coaching at Newman Catholic School in Mason City. Additionally, he is finishing up his Master's in Coaching and Administration from Loras College.
Mike Thompson
Michael Thompson has an A.A. in general studies from NIACC (1999), a B.A. in K-8 Education from the University of Northern Iowa (2002), and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Morningside College (2012). He has over twenty years of teaching experience, ranging in areas of substitute teaching, special education, behavior difficulties, and post-secondary education. Michael has taught Communications at NIACC while also coordinating NIACC’s remedial reading and writing programs for the last eight years. Additionally, Michael has taught guitar and bass lessons as an adjunct at NIACC for the last five years and has operated his private music studio for roughly twenty years as well.
